In the school year 2016-2017 Melkys school will have up to 20 first, second and third grade students combined. The artistic activities and workshops will combine all students, and all the classes will work together. During Lithuanian language, mathematics and English language classes, the second grade be learning along with the third grade and the first-graders will learn separately. Working in mixed-age groups reflects the natural family environment, will help children develop mutual understanding, respect, willingness to help one each other, and furthermore it develops their independence. Children naturally deepen and consolidate their knowledge by teaching each other.
Melkys school schedule is based on the General Education Program and extracurricular activities. Classes take place from Monday to Friday. Each day we start at 9a.m. and finish at 4p.m., except Fridays, Fridays we finish at 2p.m.
Every day begins with a morning exercise. Pupils and teachers run together to the lake and take a swim.
9:40 - 9:50 – tea break.
9:50 - 10:10 – plan of the day and a talk.
10:15 - 11:00 – Lithuanian language, mathematics, English language lessons. The place of the lessons (indoors, outdoors) depends on the teacher with regards to the theme of the day and the overall mood.
11:00 - 11:45 – artistic activities – art, music, dance, martial arts, crafts and theater.
12:00 - 12:45 – Lithuanian language, mathematics, English language lessons. The place of the lessons (indoors, outdoors) depends on the teacher with regards to the theme of the day and the overall mood.
12:45 - 13:00 – readings.
13:00 - 13:30 – lunch.
13:30 - 14:30 – outdoor activities: learning about nature, time for projects, „the good deed”( (volunteering activity at community members home or elsewhere).
14:30 - 15:00 – individual tasks. In the beginning of each week, each child receives tasks that are made by teachers to every child, based on each child's individual needs and growth. This time is for these tasks to be done. Children can choose themselves which tasks to perform first, consult with each other or with the teacher. This is a great way to develop cooperation and autonomy. At the end of the week children reflect on these tasks with the teacher, they discuss and plan together, what should be learned and improved.
15:00 - 15:15 – tea break.
15:15 - 16:00 – artistic activities – ushu, art, music, dance, crafts and theater.
16:00 - 16:30 – time to go home.
